Honor the Fallen on Memorial Day: The MURPH WOD

Memorial Day-- it's not about the cookout. We all think of the last Monday in May as a holiday weekend, the start of summer fun. Here at JUNK we try to remember the real meaning of Memorial Day: honoring our fallen heroes. Many of us are CrossFitters and one way we honor the fallen is by completing Hero WODs. One of the most well known workouts is the MURPH in remembrance of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy of Patchogue, NY, who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th 2005.

What started out as a way to honor those who gave their lives in service of their country has grown into The Murph Challenge, an annual fundraiser for the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

You don't have to be a CrossFit athlete to do the workout. No matter your sport, you can use the MURPH WOD as an opportunity to shake things up a bit in the gym. Take a moment to thank all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
