Zoe Womack, classical ballet trainee for State Street Ballet Company

Here at JUNK we don't just design, sew and ship headbands all over the world-- the team is made up of all types of people with many different passions. We have runners, weightlifters, functional athletes, cyclists, extreme hikers, mountain bikers, skaters and even a ballerina!

Today we are giving you a sneak peek into the life of an aspiring professional dancer. Zoe Womack spent her summer working at JUNK Brands HQ helping customers select the right headband for their personal style. Zoe is 19 years old and has been dancing since she was 7. After graduating high school she headed off to Santa Barbara, California, to study as a trainee for the State Street Ballet Company. Classical ballet is her passion and during most of the year she trains all day every week day. Her goal is to dance professionally one day.

What is a typical day for a classical ballet trainee and full time dancer? Check out Zoe's daily routine and find out when she trains, what she eats for fuel and how she recovers from the grueling dance training.

8:00 Wake Up!

I have the same breakfast everyday: a bagel with butter, mashed avocado and a fried egg sprinkled with pink Himalayan sea salt. My boyfriend is a coffee roaster, so we drink pour over coffee made with the coffee beans he brings home from work.

9:00 Get to Company Class

Off to Company class to dance-- it's warm up and we all wear funky sweaters and socks and it's very sweaty.

10:30 Lunch Break

I don't like eating lunch so early but my favorite thing is a breakfast burrito at the nearby Mexican restaurant (Super Cucas). If we are preparing for a performance we don't get a lunch break so I bring snacks to munch on throughout the day. My favorites are white corn puffs and cheddar rockets from Trader Joes.

11:30 Warm Up for Class

Stretch and warm up before trainee class.

12:00 Technique Class

All the trainees attend this class every day. This is when we practice technique and rehearse for company shows. If we have an upcoming performance we practice from 9a-3pm with no lunch.

3:00 School's Out!

I run home and ice my entire body! Two rounds of 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. After so much dancing every day something always hurts, especially my back and legs.

4:00 Dinner

Time to eat a quick dinner before work. My go-to meal is baked tilapia with lemon and Himalayan sea salt, plus a baked sweet potato with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon.

4:30 Off to Work

On the way to work I stop by The French Press to see my boyfriend and get a coffee. Then I walk about 1/2 a mile to work.

8:00 Time to Relax

I love to hang out with friends on the beach at night or get home and eat snacks with my roommates. My favorite evening snack is Kraft mac and cheese. I need about 8 hours of sleep a night and get to bed around midnight.
