5 Membership Growth Strategies and the Value of Custom Headbands

Let's cut to the chase. Running a gym is no walk in the park, right? There are a few tweaks to turn your gym into a community hub. We’ve worked with a lot of businesses and athletes, and these are the things we’ve experienced that have transformed the communities we are a part of.

1. The Welcome Pack Overhaul: More Than Paper

Most people serious about their fitness will read what you give them. Make sure it’s fun and valuable. In the paperwork, include a class list, benefits, and your inclement weather policy. You can also include a CTA to join your athlete page or follow you on social (p.s. an athlete page is also a great option for building community).

Swag is a great bonus for a welcome pack. This can include a branded water bottle, drawstring or reusable grocery bag, or a custom headband.

2. Discounts with a Twist: Perks That Matter

Shift the focus from numbers to experiences. "Bring a Friend" month, cool discounts on specialty classes, and extra personal training sessions can be amazing experiences that enrich and add value to athlete’s lives.

You also have an opportunity to partner with local apparel brands or service providers that offer discounts, free sessions, or benefits for patronizing the local spots.

3. Diversify your Classes: Spice Up the Routine

Adding a new class or an existing class at a new time is a huge opportunity. It’s difficult for executives and parents to make time for fitness. If these are the people that drive your community, having extra opportunities to grab a workout can be a game changer. We know that dedication to a fitness class comes with accountability and habit forming.

Some parents have kids with closed practices, some busy couples make time for each other by working out together after work. The important thing is the opportunity.

Other opportunities include bringing in guest coaches or having unique 6–8-week rotating class offerings. Get your community excited about new ways of movement!

4. Building a Tribe: Proof in the Pudding

Gyms aren't just about reps; they're about bonds. Sharing real stories and real victories shows the proof is in the time your members and your coaches have put in. Team challenge anyone?

Partnering with local nonprofits, organizations, or families in need can also help people rally around a cause.

5. Yearly Rewards: Marking the Journey

Commitment deserves recognition. A custom headband is a symbol of dedication. It's not just about a workout; it's about the journey. This can be for re-upping membership, anniversary, or milestone gifts.

Sweat, Connect, Repeat

In a world of fitness jargon, let's keep it real. Your gym is more than a space; it's a community. Sweat together, connect, and let the transformations speak louder than words. We're in this together. Keep hustling.
