Below Average Brilliance: A Running Revolution

About Below Average RunningĀ

Started as a joke, Below Average Running became Nicole Linn's journey documented on TikTok. From sharing her emotions to witnessing mental and physical transformations, Nicole embraced the term "below average" to beat critics to the punch. For six months, it was just a thing, until it exploded into something bigger. Finishing in the back and puking was max effort. It challenged stereotypes and boosting others' confidence.Ā

Ā Ā

Where to StartĀ

Starting slow is the golden rule. Nicole encourages beginners to ditch the notion of an 8-minute mile ā€“ the average is 13 minutes for women, and that's far from slow; it's the average! Giving yourself grace is crucial when the burn sets in, pushing through to the point where distance running becomes enjoyable. Run for time, not distance, and stay consistent to build endurance.Ā

Ā Ā

What Keeps You MotivatedĀ

Determination to reach a goal is at the core of Nicole's motivation. Her mindset shifted, and the benefits ā€“ from improved sleep to mental clarity ā€“ became driving forces. Falling in love with the sport is not just about running; it's about the holistic impact on well-being.Ā

Ā Ā

Haters Gonna HateĀ

Some claimed Nicole encouraged mediocrity, but she respectfully disagreed. Embracing running isn't just about physical health; it's about improving your body, especially as you age. Running groups aren't just about miles; they're about building connections ā€“ best friends, business partners, or even love interests. You never know what youā€™re going to get out of it.Ā Ā

Ā Ā

The Third MarathonĀ

Three marathons in 18 months, but Dallas was a lot of fun. No one warned about the hills, but Nicole embraced the change in scenery. Used to scorching temperatures, she found solace in the cooler weather, and despite a less-than-ideal training cycle, it felt great. (Stay tuned for her blog on this and read about her Miami marathon here!)Ā

A Support System is EverythingĀ

Nicole's support system is rock solid. From her boyfriend biking alongside her to friends swapping distances and family providing unwavering support, it's a team effort. Long runs get friends and family packing, and the undivided attention during those moments is what makes the journey memorable.Ā

Ā Ā

Whatā€™s NextĀ

Her goals exploded, run clubs sprouting everywhere ā€“ Below Average Running has become a movement. Nicole envisions adding run clubs in Savannah, GA, and London, England, creating spaces where speed takes a backseat to the love of running. And brace yourselves ā€“ a Below Average Race might just be on the horizon! Get ready to lace up and break some stereotypes.Ā
